The SIMA programme provides a well – rounded education to develop children’s concentration, creative thinking, memory power, logical reasoning abilities and to boost children’s confidence to face life challenges. The benefits of the programme include, but not limited to the following:

• Photographic Memory:

A concept of thinking in pictures that can help the student perform better not only in mathematics but in other subjects

• Listening Skills:

The constant practice of calculating sums dictated by the course instructors, fellow students, parents, or guardians to acquire speed and accuracy in calculation, sharpens listening skills in students

• Concentration

The teaching methodology in SIMA sharpens the exclusive attentiveness of students and helps them concentrate better

• Observation

In the SIMA training, students develop the ability to compare, analyse and differentiate objects such as, the Rods and Beads of the SIMA Abacus, movements and steps.

• Imagination

At a specific stage in this learning process, the abacus is withdrawn from the students and they are then expected to work on an imaginary SIMA abacus. Constant practice in this helps sharpen the imagination skills of the students.

• Creativity:

The right brain hemisphere is the brain for creativity. And the SIMA concept is majorly aimed at right brain development which leads to higher dimension of creativity in students.

• Speed and Accuracy:

This programme is also about speed and accuracy through constant practice. When this is achieved, the child improves not just in arithmetic but in the overall academic performance of the child.

• Improves Numeracy

Educating a child on numbers and place values at a younger age has always been a challenge to early child educators. On the SIMA Abacus however, the rods distinctively solves this place value problem. Again, by constant call outs of numbers by the course instructors, numeracy and its concepts improves in these kids automatically.

• Strong Foundation for Academic Excellence

Mathematics is the mother of all science, and Arithmetic is the foundation for mathematics. Therefore, SIMA naturally will make its students excel in, not just mathematics, but in all the other subjects since these SIMA students will unconsciously affect other subjects with skills acquired in the SIMA class, such as Concentration.

SIMA Abacus Course Description

a) Programme’s Name:

Soroban Intelligent Mental Arithmetic (SIMA) Abacus.

b) Levels:

SIMA Abacus Course consists of 11 mainstream levels & 3 Pre-Basic classes.

c) Nature of Programme:

An active numerical and image processing training of human brains using the SIMA abacus and subsequently imaginary beads of the SIMA Abacus to process arithmetic calculations which enhances and improves the development of the left and right hemispheres of the brain.

d) Relevancy to School Standards:

Suitable for Pre-School, Primary and JSS (JHS) Students.

e) Course Duration:

4 years++ for students who started at the Basic 1 level.

7 years++ for younger students who start at the Pre-Basic classes.

f) Entry Requirement:

For children of 3 years of age who can communicate with little knowledge of numbers or figures are acceptable.

 g) Programme Session:

2 hours session per week to be allocated flexibly.
